How did We get here?
It is the year 1808 SDG (Since the Founding of the EIB), a calendar system now rendered meaningless to Volke living off Ird, year 204 SDN (Since the New Beginning) in the new colonial calendar.
The Colony Ship Neuhafn safely landed on its target world, fifty years after leaving its home planet. Children were born during the journey, who would never know the world of their parents. Volk passed away during the journey, who would never come to know the new home they set out for. Named for the ship that brought them there, Neuhafn is the first and largest of the First Wave Colonies, First Among Equals.
It has been 203 years since Neuhafn was established; with the sudden collapse of Maun, the intended leader of the First Wave Colonies, Neuhafn has stepped in to fill the power vacuum. Explorers in a local scout ship stumbled across a giant, moon-sized, steel-blue orbital made of an unknown substance dubbed “plasteel.” The technology and resources now available from this LosTec discovery have made it possible to “print” scout ships with longer-range capabilities, and to build colony domes on relatively barren worlds. Control of the orbital has been given over to a local megacorp that has contracted with the government to lead exploration and colonization.
NEUHAFN
Vaerbern engineers from Nijsted worked tirelessly for 50 years, collaborating with the Diofyn, the Blightheart, to advance their knowledge and utilize Old Tech to be able to build ships to get off of Ird before the Diofyn would inevitably extinguish all other life on Ird. Neuhafn was by far the largest and best outfitted of the colony ships, and the Builders packed many additional Prefab Units to be able to seamlessly unpack a major population center in a matter of weeks on their new home upon landing. The colony has since boomed, far surpassing the other surviving First Wave Colonies, and becoming the de facto first among equals. How will this upset of power play out in the Stellar Dark Age as the First Wave Colonies reconnect and embark on their Second Wave?
